When using steel in buildings where people are living or working, fire protection is naturally essential. The current provisions demand that the building must be protected in case of fire so as to prevent a loss of carrying strength and stability. Modern fire-protection coatings systems are used for this. Fire-protection coatings systems form a thermally insulating layer under heat, thereby increasing the fire resistance time of steel parts.
The project Adidas that we have been processing since late 2016 comprises more than 50,000 sqm of (fire-protection) coating surfaces. Our client is a working community of the companies Züblin Stahlbau GmbH and stahl+verbundbau gesellschaft für industrielles bauen mbh, which process the entire steel construction part for this project. The actual order is one of the greatest ones assigned here so far in the area of fire protection.
The individual steel girders are applied with a fire-protection system of fire resistance class R 90. The coating structure for every individual part is determined depending on function, profile, length, thickness and material. We use Sika® Unitherm® Platinum as fire-protection coatings material. Sika® Unitherm® Platinum is a solvent-free 2K-fire-protection coatings on an epoxy basis that is used both indoors and outdoors. We have made some positive experience with this Material when processing large projects in the past already.
Due to the size of the project and the narrow schedule, the work is performed both in our Kreuztal plant and in the one in Schapen, Emsland. Our production processes and the material used permit throughput times of less than 96 hours (including top-coating).
Out work scope not only includes the strict fire-protection coatings, but also the entire logistics area. It comprises not only the standard transports, but also delivery by special transport. Beyond this, we are responsible for construction site work and improvement of transport and assembly damage.
